Hearts Over Habits was founded in Tampa, FL by Dr. Sharla Walker. Walker was inspired to start the organization after assessing the astounding need for mentoring in life skills for young women in their community. Determined to make a difference Walker spent the next several months researching and speaking with leaders about community needs. The data gathered highlighted the need for Walker to take action, Walker founded Hearts Over Habits, Inc. as a nonprofit IRS 501(c)3 organization. Since the program's initiation, Hearts Over Habits, Inc. has forged strong partnerships with local community agencies to begin serving young women in vulnerable populations. In 2020, Hearts Over Habits, Inc. received the National Mentoring Resource Center Technical Assistance Grant which provides assistance to provide evidence-based mentoring programs. Along with a committed leadership team Hearts Over Habits, Inc. is committed to the success of the young women they serve.

Hearts Over Habits provides mentoring and life skills to young women ages 14-24 years in vulnerable populations including, but not limited to those in foster care, the juvenile justice system, impoverished, and minority communities. We believe that transformation of your heart will impact transformation of habits. A heart ready and willing for change is all that is required to “belong” with us. Perfection is not a requirement!

We are excited to see transformed lives and the success of our program participants. Our innovative online format allows for our participants to be connected with our community no matter their circumstances.
